Before receiving treatment under an approved research program, each patient must sign a written informed consent form.
If the patient is a minor or lacks the mental capacity to provide informed consent, a parent, guardian, or conservator may provide informed consent on the patient’s behalf.
An institutional review board overseeing a research program under this subchapter may adopt a form to be used for the informed consent required by this section. Added by Acts 2021, 87th Leg., R.S., Ch. 660 (H.B. 1535), Sec. 1, eff. September 1, 2021.

The legislature occasionally skips outline levels. For example:
(3) A person may apply [. ] (4)(a) A person petitioning for relief [. ]
In this example, (3), (4), and (4)(a) are all outline levels, but (4) was omitted by its authors. It's only implied. This presents an interesting challenge when laying out the text. We've decided to display a blank section with this note, in order to aide readability.
